Technology Scams

The invention and development of the Internet is a great blessing to humanity. Yet, beside the blessing, this amazing technology, that pulled the development of adjacent technologies. Some of these new technologies are used by unscrupulous people to create and deploy sophisticated tools to cheat and extract money from unsuspecting people, in particular those of advanced age, which are the most vulnerable part of society, and who are also among the least experienced and adept, at the understanding the intricacies of the Internet. This website is intended, among others, to educate and alert this segment of the population, how to detect and evaluate what they get on the Internet, whether it is legitimate or a scam, no matter how good and reasonable it may look. The ingenuity pf the criminal circles which are involved in these scams, is very high, and they sometimes, are ahead of any control or precautionary measures. Being equipped with the correct knowledge, can counteract their sophistication and send them packing.

Personal ID data

In this modern life, each person is not only someone who has a name, a physical size, gender and a variety of identifying characteristics. When you enter a financial institution to open and account, they really do not care about the color of your hair, how tall you are, and many times not even how old you are. You are not the name you show, but a number that is attached to it. In many countries around the world there is an ID card, which carried a unique number. This number accompanies you until your departure from this world. In the USA where there is no official ID card, you driving license, or a special ID card that s issued by the same state authority that provides you with the drive license, will serve as your ID. Sometime, in certain cases, the number of your passport will serve as your ID. In financial institution they will also require your social security number, whch is a must have. This information is many times what these criminals are after. Once they put their hands on it, they can act like you and drain money from your accounts.

Unsolicited offers

Most any user of the internet, whether by computer of phone, tablet or laptop, has an email. Many are also subscribed to one of many what we call social networks or media. This means that for the scammers, it is today so much easier to make contact with people, even not knowing whether they are a man or a woman, young or old. Almost all of us experienced, at some point, receiving an email with some offer that was crafted in such a way, that for a large number of the addressees, it looked legit the reasonable. Most of these emails, contain very exciting offers, like winning a prize, receiving some benefit from a large organization, or a notice about some inheritance from a relative you never knew that you even had. Some are offers for loans with a special low interest rate, no credit checks or collaterals. In short: offers that land on you from out of the blue. Offers that you did not ask for, but whch seems to be too good to be true. So, as the saying goes: if it is too good to be true – it is probably not true. So how do you detect those? We'll show you.
